History
The story of RPow Consulting began in 2006 when Andrés Barros Borrero embarked on his pioneering journey into thermal storage using molten salts within Abengoa’s concentrated solar power projects.
Over the years, Andrés transitioned through various thermal storage projects, continuously evolving his expertise across multiple engineering disciplines. His stellar reputation, built on exceptional work, led him to consultancy roles with the World Bank, where he assisted clients in overcoming challenges related to thermal storage systems.
Driven by growing demand, Andrés founded RPow in 2019. The company specialized in basic and detailed engineering services, enhancing the operation and maintenance (O&M) of salt systems, and conducting feasibility studies for new solar parks.
With a top-tier team of engineers, RPow quickly began offering services on a global scale. The company also innovated modular systems, which were promptly patented. These innovations were born from Andrés’ foresight that new concentrated solar power plants would become less common, while modular systems could help decarbonize industries requiring process heat between 300 and 400°C.
In 2022, Andrés struck a deal with Kyoto Group AS, allowing the company to acquire part of these patents and appointing him to lead its Spanish subsidiary, focusing on modular systems. Meanwhile, RPow continued to concentrate on large-scale systems.
The year 2023 marked a significant transition as seasoned executives joined RPow, facilitating a smooth and organized evolution. Under Andrés’ leadership as company president, RPow revamped and enhanced its commercial strategy, client selection process, and financial systems.
In 2024, RPow’s management team expanded its focus beyond thermal storage system engineering to include design engineering services for hydrogen technologies and decarbonized fuels. This strategic pivot signaled a new chapter in RPow’s journey towards shaping a sustainable future.
